Blue Pearl Software CTO Prab Varma Named 2011 IEEE Fellow
PISCATAWAY, N.J.—January 7, 2011—Prab Varma, Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of Blue Pearl Software Inc., Santa Clara, CA. has been named an IEEE Fellow. He is being recognized for contributions to system-on-chip (SoC) test technology. Dr. Varma’s innovative research facilitated the development of electronic test automation software that helped significantly reduce the costs associated with testing the chips that power today’s complex electronic devices, such as smart-phones.
The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year cannot exceed one-tenth of one- percent of the total voting membership. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement. 321 individuals have been elevated to IEEE Fellow for 2011.
Before co-founding Blue Pearl Software in 2004 to develop automatic timing constraint generation software that accelerates the timing closure of high-performance SoCs, Dr. Varma was president and founder of Veritable Inc., where he developed design analysis and verification software that operates directly on a high-level representation of an SoC design. He has also held various other management positions in the EDA (Electronic Design Automation) industry including Vice President of Product Engineering for Duet Technologies, Inc. and Vice President of Engineering at CrossCheck Technology, Inc., where he was responsible for SoC test and automatic test generation software development.
Dr. Varma has served on several IEEE standards and conference committees. He was the founding general chair of the IEEE High-Level Design Verification and Test Workshop in 1996, 1997 and 2008, and has served on its steering committee since 1998. He was General Chair of the IEEE VLSI Test Symposium in 1994 and 1995, and has been on its steering committee since 1996. Dr. Varma has received seven IEEE Computer Society awards. He also served as co-chair of the Virtual Socket Initiative (VSI) manufacturing test working group.
